It works on a simple principle : 

• More than one courses can be alloted to a single subject
• More than one subjects can be alloted to a single topic

​Thus, it creates a tree like structure if you view from a single course, but the view might differ if you view from topics.

The panel also provides a graphical representation for the number of students opting for courses and subjects.

The description about courses and subjects are used in the frontend website to be displayed, hence you can design this field with the editor provided to you.

The fees for course is applicable only if the student has opted for all its underlying subjects, else the fees for the course is the total of fees for the subjects opted by the students.
